Internet Quality of Experience

I am interested in the factors that determine user’s satisfaction with Internet services, particularly the parameters of delay, information loss, and media fidelity. While working at Nortel, I designed and conducted a series of experiments to assess users’ reactions to quality-of- experience (QoE) parameters of Internet networks. Much of this work focused on network performance parameters that affect Voice Over IP (VoIP) audio quality. Recently, Ben Bauer (Nortel) and I have drafted a paper describing an extension to the classic 7-layer OSI Reference Model to propose 3 new Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) layers and a common language for discussing QoE issues.
