This is an entertaining article about how your brain works, and why it cannot be trusted. Read how memory is really a reconstruction of vague fictions, and perception is based on the little bit of information your brain did not throw away.
Don’t Turn Your Back on Your Brain
The mind is a cruel, lying, unreliable bastard that can’t be trusted with even an ounce of responsibility. If you were dating the mind, all your friends would take you aside, and tell you that you can really do better, and being alone isn’t all that bad, anyway. If you hired the mind as a babysitter, you would come home to find all but one of your children in critical condition, and the remaining one crowned “King of the Pit.”
I always wondered at people who thought that the mind could be trusted. Also those that thought there was a truth that is knowable, a reality that is verifiable. When I first heard that not only was it a fiction machine, creating rather than recalling it really exploded my ideas of teaching and learning, and the knowability of anything. The world became that much more interesting on that day.
